Workshop
Description
Every thought and action we perform has vast implications that shape the future. Ecology deals with every single aspect of human activity, i.e. what we eat, what we buy, what we listen to, how we learn, etc. We will discuss an integral approach to ecology and sustainability, attempting to harmonize fundamental sustainable practices such as indigenous tree planting, water conservation, soil erosion control, veganism, vegan organic food growth, solar and human powered energy, positive and supportive emotional attitudes, natural learning, eco-conscious shopping, waste recycling and minimization, biodegradable toiletries, composting toilets and grey water systems. This workshop will be a single session of 5 hours. As part of the workshop we will walk around Sadhana Forest, observe the implementation and integration of various sustainable practices, meet volunteers to discuss their hands on experience of sustainability, and eat a vegan lunch. Families with children are welcome! The workshop is free of charge.

 In
some areas in Sadhana Forest, where the soil is mainly clay and pebbles, tree
planting is done by drilling a 1 meter hole in the bottom of the planting pit
and filling it with compost. The deep hole allows the plant's tap root system
to grows downward easily, and increases it's chance for survival. | | Presenter
Bio
Yorit, Aviram, and their daughter Osher Shanti founded Sadhana Forest in December 2003. Sadhana Forest's main objectives are the reforestation of 70 acres of severely eroded land, and the formation of a sustainable community. Many sustainable practices have already been implemented and integrated in Sadhana Forest, and a constant effort is being made to further increase sustainability. The reforestation work is performed with volunteers, interns and students from all over the world in exchange for free accommodation. |
