Description
Kolams are ancient art patterns drawn in front of entrances to Tamil houses. It was developed by Tamil women and has been passed on to their daughters for many centuries. A Kolam is a painted prayer -- a line drawing composed of curved loops, drawn around a grid pattern of dots. Each morning women draw kolams on the ground with white rice powder. Throughout the day, the drawings get walked on, rained out, or blown around in the wind, then new ones are made the next day.
